Overhead power lines to be put underground

The work is underway on Rock Road in Killarney

MAJOR road safety improvement works are underway on Rock Road in Killarney with a stop-go traffic management system currently in place.

Funding had been approved for improved pedestrian facilities for people walking between Ballydribeen and the top of New Road where a number of schools are located.

The work will be completed in mid July, well in advance of the schools reopening in August when the road is at its busiest.

€210,000 was provided to upgrade and widen the pedestrian route on Rock Road which is the primary access route from a number of housing developments in Ballydribeen, north of the busy by-pass road.

The road is the main route to schools and to High Street and improved pedestrian links will also be provided from the bus park on Rock Road to the schools.

The works will include a reduced carriageway, new footpaths with associated kerbing, the extension of a cycleway, new public lighting and associated ancillary and accommodation works, including the under-grounding of the power lines.
