IN a game in which there were never more than three points between the teams, Dr Crokes got over the line by three points, 1-15 to 0-15, in a very close and keenly contested senior county championship semi-final encounter.

The game was won for us and probably lost for Dingle in the 40th minute. Crokes carried the ball from the halfway line in a SWIFT passing movement which resulted in a goal by Eoin Brosnan. This put us three points ahead, a lead we held to the end.
Dingle got off to a good start and scored two points without reply but two Daithi Casey points and one from Kieran O’Leary put us a point ahead. This lead did not last long as our opponents sent over two points in as many minutes for a point lead at the end of the first quarter.

Two points by Crokes and one by Dingle left the teams level by the 20th minute. The teams exchanged points again but two points by Brian Looney just before half time gave us a 0-9 to 0-7 interval lead.
Our opponents started the second half in style and two points gave them equality after three minutes. The teams exchanged points in the next few minutes and then in the 40th minute came the vital score of the game, that goal by Eoin Brosnan.

Three unanswered points by Dingle brought them back level at the end of the third quarter. We had another good spell in the next 10 minutes with points by substitutes Ambrose O’Donovan and Micheál Burns and another from Colm Cooper. A vital free by goalkeeper Shane Murphy gave us the insurance point in the 62nd minute.

Dingle did not surrender but attacked relentlessly in the remaining minutes but their reward was just a point in the last minute. This gave us a victory by 1-15 to 0-15.
While our mentors would have been happy with a tally of 1-15 they were aspects of our game that were below par.
We are going to be playing tough opponents in Kenmare District in next Sunday’s final and we will have to improve on our semi-final performance to bring home the Bishop Moynihan trophy.
