This year’s Killarney Looking Good Competition – the first for three years – was an outstanding success with intense competition in all categories.
It was the first time being held since the pandemic and also the first since the late Yvonne Quill – the brilliant driving force behind the project – passed away last year.

The new-look Killarney Looking Good Awards initiative has been given a complete overhaul with new categories, a new committee spearheaded by Michael Gleeson, and new main sponsors in the form of MD O’Shea & Sons and O’Mahony Media.

This year, for the first time, a whopping €5,000 was given away in prizes with all category winners, those that were highly commended and special award winners, presented with monetary prizes in addition to their framed award certificates.

The gala prizegiving ceremony took place in the Killarney Plaza Hotel – who sponsored the venue and refreshments – and the keynote speakers were Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Brendan Cronin, Killarney Tidy Towns Committee Chairman Michael Gleeson, Killarney Municipal District Council Manager Angela McAllen and Kieran Barry of the Department of Social Protection.

Bishop Emeritus Dr Bill Murphy was in attendance to present the Fr Michael Murphy Memorial Pride of Place Award in memory of his late brother and Sandra Dunlea was there to present the Yvonne Quill Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award which is dedicated to her late mother.
