A CATHAL O’Shea goal was enough to nudge Killarney Celtic past Avenue United FC in a hotly-contested FAI Junior Cup tie at Celtic Park last Sunday.

The Clare side started the match much the brighter but failed to translate their midfield dominance into goal chances.

Celtic took their time getting into the match but a much-improved final 10 minutes of the opening half gave them hope going in for the break.

The Killarney side started the second half in a similar vein as they had ended the first and their efforts were quickly rewarded with a goal in the 48th minute.

Joe Hurley sprayed a fine pass out to Steven Hayes on the right wing. The winger found Cathal O’Shea in the centre who played a nice one-two with Gary Keane and rifled home a fine effort into the left hand bottom corner.

Avenue pressed and pressed for an equaliser and came close when an effort from their left-back Paddy O’Malley hit the crossbar but it was Celtic’s day and they march on to face Broadford in the next round.
