WHAT promises to be an engaging night of high quality entertainment has been lined up for the Great Southern Hotel, Killarney this Sunday night as a fundraiser for the Killarney branch of the Friends of the Children of Chernobyl.
Taking to the stage, along with True Tides – three top class musicians and brothers, Cian, Conor and Eoghan MacSweeny – will be the multi-talented Cork Youth Orchestra who will enthrall the audience with a vast selection of great musical treats, with a specific festive theme, as they present wide-ranging programmes and repertoires.
The Cork Youth Orchestra was established in April 1958 by the Cork Soroptimist Club and the first public concert took place at the Aula Maxima, University College, Cork, the following January.
Over the years the orchestra has worked on a wide variety of projects, including performances in major concert halls, live RYE radio broadcasts, recordings and benefit concerts.
The Cork Youth Orchestra has been an active supporter of several charities and community causes and beneficiaries of their successful benefit concerts have included Enable Ireland, St Vincent de Paul, the Special Olympics Fund, Friends of Chernobyl Children, Marymount Hospice, Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and, of course, the Friends of the Children of Chernobyl.
Tonight’s event, under the baton of conductor Tomás McCarthy, will commence at 7.00pm and tickets, priced at €10 for adults with a €5 concession for students and OAPs, will be available at the door on the night.
