Oars at the ready for colourful racing festival

A scene from the annual Killarney Regatta

It’s back. After a two-year pandemic enforced absence, the boats are again being lined up for the colourful Killarney Regatta.

The big event, one of the most enjoyable community sporting spectacles of the year, will take place on Sunday, June 26 at Mahony’s Point at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club and this year will mark the 235th time it has been held.

The racing will begin at 9.30am and all ages will compete from the six Killarney clubs, Fossa, Workmen, Muckross, Flesk Valley, St Brendan’s and Commercials.

A successful Muckross crew that won the Novice Sixes at the Killarney Regatta some years ago, included are Gareth Doolan, Jeremy Kenny, Brendan O’Neill, Ian Clifford, Anthony O’Sullivan and Shane McCarthy,

There will, of course, be great onshore entertainment with music, dancing and children’s entertainment.

The official launch of the Killarney Regatta will be held in the Killarney Avenue Hotel on Tuesday, June 14 at 8.30 pm sharp.

All clubs will have their contestants for the Regatta Queen pageant in attendance and Workmen Rowing Club’s men’s crew from 1986 to1992 will be enrolled in the hall of fame.

The annual regatta dance and presentation of prizes will be held on Tuesday, June 28 in the Killarney Oaks Hotel and tickets can be purchased at the door on the night.
