It is shocking that numerous health care jobs remain vacant in Kerry despite long waiting lists for beds, a Kerry TD has said.
Deputy Danny Healy-Rae said he has raised the matter with the Minister for Health and is awaiting a reply.

He highlighted the following vacancies that are waiting to be filled:
- University Hospital Kerry: 50 vacant posts for nurses and carers
- Killarney Community Hospital: Six vacant posts for nurses
- Tralee Community Hospital: Five vacant posts for nurses and no Director of Nursing in place
- Dingle Community Hospital: Three vacant posts for nurses
- Caherciveen Community Hospital: Two vacant posts for nurses
- Kenmare Community Hospital: A number of beds idle at this hospital and staff need to be put in place before they can be put into us
“All these posts are waiting to be filled under the HSE safe staffing guidelines. Beds will remain idle or closed until these posts are filled,” Deputy Healy-Rae said
“This is due to the HSE staffing embargo put in place before the end of 2023 leaving many vulnerable and sick people compromised on a daily basis.
This is shocking given the huge waiting lists and people crying out for respite and long stay beds every day,” he said.
The Kerry TD said he has asked Minister Stephen Donnelly to address the issue as a matter of urgency.
