A NEW preschool has opened in the Two Mile Community National School in Killarney which itself recently reopened under the management of the Kerry Education Training Board.
The Little Explorers Preschool opened its doors this Monday with 10 children already enrolled.
Ann O‘Dwyer, Director of Schools with the Kerry ETB, said she is delighted that local woman Sharon O’Riordan agreed to set up and run the new private facility. She was initially approached by local community representatives, including Tim Horgan,
Connie Daly, Lisa Casey and Sheila O‘Donoghue, with the idea of opening a preschool and the goal was achieved with the support of the Kerry ETB.
“This will really complement the overall school programme and give the young children an invaluable introduction to school life,” Ms O’Dwyer said.
Sharon, originally from Killarney town and now living locally in the Ballyhar, completed her QQI levels 5 in Childcare in Killarney Community College and levels 6 in the Kerry College of Further Education.
She said her vision is to create an educational, stimulating and safe environment for the children.
“My aim is to provide a high quality pre-school for each child and their families, a facility that is accessible to all sections of the community and run in partnership with the parents,” she said.
Catherine Barry, the principal of the newly opened Two Mile Community National School, which opened on August 30 with nine pupils enrolled, said the preschool provides a wonderful opportunity for children of pre-school age in the locality to experience the transition from home to school environment.
Parents, community representatives, members of Kerry ETB Board and staff joined Sharon and the children at an opening ceremony. The preschool is still accepting enrolments and anyone interested should contact Sharon O’Riordan on 086-0594897.
