The Killarney branch of the Kerry Hospice Foundation has paid a moving tribute to Killarney woman Noreen Collins who was a dedicated and passionate volunteer with the charity for several years.
The branch said everybody was deeply saddened to hear of her sudden passing which came as a shock.
Noreen was a founding member of Killarney fundraising branch of Kerry Hospice and the only remaining member of that original committee more than three decades later.
Her contribution over many years was recognised at a national awards ceremony, hosted by TV personality Mary Kennedy, in Dublin in May 2019.
Noreen and Angela Curran, from Woodlawn, were both declared Hospice Heroes in recognition of their outstanding work on behalf of the charity.
“While her loss will be most deeply felt by her family, she will be lovingly remembered by branch members, especially those who knew her from the formation of the branch, some of whom were lifelong friends,” a spokesperson said.

“Noreen was generous with her time on behalf of hospice, always ready to help out and offer a word of advice when needed.
“She was a lady who went about her business in a quiet and unassuming way. May she rest in peace,” the branch added.
Online tributes to the late Noreen have described her as a wonderful mother, wife and friend, who was always upbeat and focused on what was important in life.
Noreen (née Dunne) was originally from Carrigadrohid, Co Cork but her family home was located on Ross Road in Killarney.
She is survived by her husband John, a retired AIB manager in Killarney, sons Michael, John, Brian and Billy and daughters Mary and Maeve.
Mary is the principal of the Presentation Monastery National School in Killarney.
Noreen is further survived by sons-in-law Eoin Brosnan and Micheál McGrath, daughters-in-law Niamh, Komella, Clodagh and Maeve, grandchildren Róisín, Killian, Annie, Garvan, Seán, Elizabeth, Íde, Sadhbh, Jane, Gráinne, Eimear, Ruairí, Finley, Susie, Michael and Marnie, her sister Síle Morgan, brothers Noel and Teddy and many other relatives and friends.
Reposing at O’Shea’s Funeral Home this Thursday evening from 4.30pm to 6.30pm will be followed by removal to St Mary’s Cathedral.
Requiem Mass for Noreen will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10.30am with burial afterwards in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery, Killarney. The Requiem Mass will be live streamed on https://www.churchservices.tv/killarneycathedral.
