Uisce Éireann’s silence is deafening in its refusal to respond to queries about the condition of the waste water treatment plant which services the Lakes of Killarney, it has been claimed.
The matter has been raised by Cllr John O’Donoghue who said he is still awaiting a reply from the utilities company nearly 18 months after he had raised concerns about the Ross Road plant.

“Given its close proximity to the Lakes of Killarney, it is of the utmost importance that this plant is functioning correctly and well within its own capacity,” Cllr O’Domoghue said.
“We saw recently in Northern Ireland, with the scandalous pollution on Lough Neagh, what can happen when proper systems are not in place, and if it happened there, it can happen here.
“I presume that Lough Neagh, as one of the most famous lakes on our island, as well as being the largest, was presumed to be closely monitored until disaster struck,” he remarked.
Cllr O’Donoghue said he is “now fearful” as to the reasons behind Uisce Éireann’s efusal to comment.
“Is it because the plant needs major upgrading? I sincerely hope this is not the case but until they issue me with a definitive answer, I’m afraid we can only speculate,” he stated.
