DESPITE the popularity of the area and the number of people it attracts, there are no plans to increase the size of the public car park at Torc Waterfall, it has been confirmed.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has stressed that the attraction is located within a Special Area of Conservation and, as a result, there is no potential to add additional car parking spaces.
The matter had been raised by Cllr Maura Healy-Rae who asked Kerry County Council to liaise with the NPWS to ask for the land necessary for an extension to be provided.
“With over 26,000 acres in the park, I believe this is not an unreasonable request given the serious safety issues posed with people parking along the main road as there is no space in the car park,” she said.
Council officials stressed, however, that they previously discussed the matter with the NPWS and the proposal was deemed to be a non-runner.
