No flashing lights – just green – at garda station

Killarney has gone green once again for the St Patrick’s Festival with many public buildings and shops lighting up in festive green. The lights were turn on at Killarney Garda Station this week where Chief Supt John Ryan joined festival chairman Jason Clifford and lighting sponsors Elis Textiles Limited representatives Eoin Collins and Andrew Trigg along with Johnny McGuire, co-president, Killarney Chamber, committee members Ciara Austin and Jonathan Aber and Killarney Gardai, Sgt Kieran McElligott, Luke Burgeons, Leanne Haussmann and Sgt Dermot O’Connell

Fáilte Ireland’s annual Meitheal trade show – which generates huge interest in the tourism and travel industry – will again return to Killarney next month with delegates and guests to descend on the Gleneagle INEC Arena.

The event, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland, will highlight what Kerry and Ireland have to offer from world-class scenery and hospitality to activities, attractions, culture, heritage, and food.

Meanwhile, Killarney is one of the towns chosen for support by Fáilte Ireland for its annual St Patrick’s Festival.

CEO Paul Kelly said this weekend marks an important event on the tourism calendar and the unofficial beginning of the tourism season.

“This festival is not just a celebration – it is a strategic initiative that reinforces Ireland’s position as a premier tourist destination,” he said.

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce – which organisers the St Patrick’s Festival with support from Kerry County Council and Fáilte Ireland, said this year’s event promises an incredible celebration of Irish culture, with lively street performances, fantastic live music and the much-anticipated parade.

“We encourage everybody to come along and soak up the festive atmosphere,” the chamber said.

“We would love to see our members take part in the festivities, whether by decorating shopfronts, hosting special promotions or simply joining in the celebrations.

“This weekend is all about community spirit and public support will make it even more special”.
