No dramatic rise in calls during Storm Ophelia or Storm Brian

Firefighters were immobilised a total of 955 times

THE fire service in Kerry received a total of 126 false alarms between January and October this year and, of those, 25 calls were of a malicious nature.

The other 101 unnecessary calls were of good intent, official records for the year have confirmed.

Firefighters were immobilised a total of 955 times in the first 10 months of this year and there was a total of 779 incidents to be dealt with.

A total of 99 calls were received to attend the scene of road traffic accidents while a further seven incidents dealt with entrapment.

Gorse fires accounted for 174 calls, the number of chimney fires totalled 81 and there were 92 other fires to be dealt with.

Flooding and water pumping calls totalled just four and, significantly, neither Storm Ophelia or Storm Brian resulted in a dramatic increase in calls.
