A nice phone call to get on a Saturday night

Gerard Woods from Killorglin scooped the top prize of a luxury two-bedroom apartment in Cork

A LUCKY Kerry man has won the prize of a lifetime in a special fundraising draw organised by three sports clubs in Cork.

Gerard Woods from Killorglin scooped the top prize of a luxury new two-bedroom apartment in Ballintemple in Cork City.

His ticket was plucked from the draw drum by the organisers of the bumper WinAGaff draw organised to raise funds for Cork City FC, Douglas GAA and Kinsale AFC and he was thrilled to learn that he was the big winner.

Over 9,000 tickets were sold and other prizes included anew Toyota Yaris and a cool €1,000 in cash, both of which went to Cork winners.

Killorglin man Gerard is currently living in Yangon, Myanmar, where he works in the telecommunications industry. He was informed of his wonderful win by telephone after Saturday night’s draw.

Douglas GAA will use the proceeds to erect floodlighting and carry out improvements to its pitch, while Cork City will invest in its youth academy. Kinsale AFC, meanwhile, improve its facilities.
