SUPPORTERS of Scott’s Lakers will get their first opportunity to see the new-look squad in action on home turf when they Cormac O’Donoghue’s side host Cork side Fr Matthews at Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre this Saturday night (7.30pm.)

They will also be introduced to new American signing Sean O’Brien, a native of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, who scored an impressive 22 points in the season opener when Lakers
won 67-60 away to Limerick IT.
Dutch power forward Papito Hersisia also scored 22 points in that encounter and his huge 6’8″ frame and ability to dominate under the boards will give Lakers extra strength this season.

Also lining out for Killarney will be Dailian Mason, from Birmingham, who returns for his second season with Lakers while home grown talent of the calibre of Mark Greene, Padraig Lucey, Andrew Fitzgerald, Philip O’Connor, Dylan O’Sullivan, Cian Clernon, Dan Griffin, Paul Clarke and Irish American Justin Tuason, will also take to the boards.

The St Paul’s club has also confirmed the arrival of Seamus Brosnan, who has transferred from St Mary’s Castleisland and former Blue Demons star Shane McCarthy while Marko Bencic, son of St Paul’s director of coaching Vojkan Bencic, has also joined the squad as a European Bosman player.

Launching the new season campaign and sponsorship agreement, Scott’s Hotel managing director, Maurice O’Donoghue, said he is looking forward to some more big nights this season.

He noted that the O’Donoghue family’s involvement with basketball in Killarney goes back almost 40 years and three generations.

His father, the late Maurice O’Donoghue, and the recently deceased Paudie O’Connor were two forward thinking visionary leaders who travelled to the USA to recruit the very first American basketballers that came to Ireland in 1979.
