New role for high performing Kerry entrepreneur

Prof Edmond Harty is a world’s renowned pioneer in agricultural technology

A KERRY entrepreneur has been inaugurated as vice-president of Engineers Ireland at the professional membership body’s annual general meeting.
Professor Edmond Harty took up the office at the event which was held virtually this Thursday.
Engineers Ireland is the statutory and regulatory body for all disciplines of professional engineering in Ireland and one of the longest established professional bodies in the country.
Professor Harty is an adjunct full professor at the UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering and is currently chair of the board of directors of AgriTech Centre of Excellence, a governor of the Irish Times Trust and chair of the board of governors at Pallaskenry Agricultural College.
With a mechanical engineering degree from University of Limerick and a PhD in Biosystems Engineering from UCD, he is regarded as one of the world’s leading pioneers in agricultural technology and he has a track record of combining leading research with successful commercialisation of the resulting intellectual property
A former CEO of Dairymaster, a world-leading dairy innovation and technology company, Professor Harty transformed the company in his 22-year involvement from a fabrication company to an engineering company and then to a technology company by introducing new technologies from software and electronics to lasers and robots, as well as developing products using internet of things, cloud computing, machine learning and AI.
