The go-ahead has been given for a second pedestrian crossing in Rathmore, Mayor of Kerry, Cllr John Sheahan has confirmed. This time a new crossing will service the East End of the village. The crossing will be located on the N72 close to Hickey’s Centra. This is welcome news especially for the residents of Gleann Rua and Shinnagh.
Meanwhile, the contractor will be appointed next week to undertake the bridge works at Beheenagh. The works which entail bridge widening and minor road realignment will commence this month and run until the end of the year. Traffic management measures will be in place during the construction works but delays will be kept to a minimum.
Thanks: Carmel and Eileen O’Keeffe have thanked everyone who supported their fundraising coffee morning. They have thanked all who attended and also to people who could not attend but supported the event and the people who did home baking and to the people who tirelessly served on the day. All funds raised will go directly to Uganda to help with healthcare, education and other essential needs.
Volunteers: Rathmore Community Council needs more volunteers to help prepare for the Tidy Towns competition and the more the merrier. An all-out effort is needed by businesses, clubs and residents so show your support. If you have any ideas or suggestions please contact any Community Council member.
Scheme: Rathmore Community Council is recruiting new participants for Rural Social Scheme. Applicants must be in receipt of a means tested social welfare payment and have one payment received. They must be 25 years or older to apply and actively farming or have access to an active herd umber. Pence: The diocesan Peter’s Pence collection last weekend for Peter’s Pence came to €1,190.
Mission: A joint meeting with liturgy committees, sacristans, those involved in music, ministry and pastoral council members will meet in Teach Iosagain, Rathmore on Monday, May 14 at 8pm regarding the parish mission in October. A priest from the Redemptorist Order will attend.
Death: Sympathy is extended to Tim Sheehan, Kilquane, on the death of his father Johnnie Sheehan, Banteer. May he rest in peace.
Communion: First Holy Communion ceremonies will be held on Saturday next in Knocknagree and on Saturday, May 19 in Gneeveguilla,
Knock: The annual Gneeveguilla pilgrimage to Knock Shrine takes place on Sunday, May 27 with the bus leaving the GAA Hall at 7am sharp. If interested contact Anne Cronin on 064-7756249 or 087-2785565.
Session: There will be a Rambling House session in the Heritage Centre, Scartaglin on Monday, May 14 at 9pm. Admission is free, there will be a raffle and refreshments and all are welcome.
Dance: The Sliabh luachra Active Retired Network will hold the May Tea Dance on Sunday, May 13 in Ballymacelligott Community Centre hosted by Ballymacelligott Active Retired. The usual buses will be available. The event will start at 2.30pm with music and song and tea will be served.
