TWO of the largest credit unions in Kerry, Killarney Credit Union and Cara Credit Union, have launched a current account and debit card for their 87,000 members in Kerry.

A total of 31 credit unions throughout Ireland have worked on the current account project for the past two years to develop this superb new service for members.

Killarney Credit Union has branches in Killarney, Kenmare and Caherciveen, servicing members throughout Kerry.

Mark Murphy, CEO of Killarney Credit Union, said members now finally get a real choice on where they can go for their financial needs.

“By offering a current account, we essentially can offer everything that a bank can, taking in salary and wages, managing direct debits and an ATM card that is globally accepted. We also have a mobile banking app where members have full control over their transactions,” he said.

The service includes a current account with fully managed direct debits and standing orders, an overdraft facility, a Mastercard debit card and online banking.

Mark added: “This is a revolutionary change for the credit union movement and it places the credit union as a viable alternative for those who want current account services. The beauty of the credit union is that it is a locally based, friendly service and our current account fees and charges are not excessive”.

The credit union also offers the addition of concessions for younger members and senior members. Members who are registered for online banking can easily apply for a current account service via their online banking facility.

Further information on opening a current account is available online on www.killarneycu.ie or in any of the branches.
