Need for drainage and improvements confirmed

Road improvements and drainage works are required in the area

A SMALL rural road on the outskirts of Killarney is badly in need of resurfacing and it has been decades since any work was carried out there, it has been pointed out.

Cllr Michael Gleeson highlighted the situation at the short cul-de-sac section of the former main road at Minish that extends left from the L7067 tertiary road and extends north westwards, under a fixed barrier, for approximately 400 metres.

It services eight houses and It has not been improved since the development of the main N22 Kerry-Cork road, he said.

Cllr Michael Gleeson: Respect for the local community

“It hasn’t got a lick of paint for at least 40 years. I went to the creamery on a horse and cart along that road,” Cllr Gleeson said.

He said action needs to be taken out of respect to the local community.

Council officials said engineers from the Killarney Municipal District Office have inspected the road and established that drainage and road improvement works are required.

It will be considered as part of the council’s annual drainage programme and the multi-annual roads programme on confirmation of whether the road is still within the charge of the local authority.
