NCT test should remain valid for full 12 months

The average wait time for an NCT test in Kerry is now six months

Given the huge backlog in the number of Kerry motorists waiting for their NCT test – through no fault of their own – there has been a call for successful test results to be valid from the date the assessment was carried out rather than the original due date.

Highlighting concerns on the matter, Cllr Marie Moloney said, under the current system, somebody that has had to wait six months to get a test date would have to get their car examined again six months later as that was the original due date.

Cllr Marie Moloney: Wants 2-month certs

Kerry County Council agreed to Cllr Moloney’s request to write to the minister asking that any applicant that has had their vehicle caught up in the backlog should be entitled to have successful pass certificated valid for 12 months from the time of issue.

“Otherwise they will be due a test again six months later and that’s not acceptable,” Cllr Moloney said.
