‘I have natural power in every punch – whoever gets in the ring with me won’t see the final bell’

Kevin Cronin: “I have natural power in every punch so whoever gets in the ring with me I believe won’t see the final bell”

YOUNG Kerry sportsman Kevin Cronin is ready to make a big statement overseas in just his second pro boxing fight.

The Kingdom Warrior heads to the historic York Hall in London on Saturday, June 22 where he will continue his development following a stunning pro debut in March.

Cronin is one of four Irish fighters, including major star Eric Donovan, set to feature on a Hellraiser Boxing card at the spiritual home of British boxing and he is determined to turn some heads.

The bill is dubbed The Irish Invasion and Cronin plans to be front and centre in Bethnal Green.

The 22-year-old remarked: “I’m really looking forward to performing and yet again showcasing my skills and power on a big stage. I’m looking forward to get another big win and bringing myself another step closer to a title shot and maybe a big sell-out in Kerry.”

The light heavyweight from Milltown scored a fourth-round knockout at the National Stadium in Dublin on his debut back in March, backing up the sizeable hype that had been bubbling.

Cronin faced Poland’s Mateusz Lisiak on the big Clash of the Titans bill and, in many ways, enjoyed the perfect debut.

He brought a large and loud crowd to Dublin for the pro bow – with dozens more watching the live TG4 coverage in Griffin’s Bar in Castlemaine – and they were treated to a big knockout.

Scheduled for four rounds, Cronin showed plenty of what he has been working on in Dublin with top coach Jonathan Lewis before closing the show in the final session with a chopping uppercut that sucked all the fight out of his competitive foe.

“I have natural power in every punch so whoever gets in the ring with me I believe won’t see the final bell,” he said.

There are a limited amount of tickets available for The Irish Invasion on June 22. Tickets cost £40 (unreserved) and £70 (ringside).
