KILLARNEY Musical Society has paid a warm tribute to long-time member Aileen Rohan (née Ferris) whose passing, at a young age, has caused widespread shock in her native Killarney.
A spokesperson said everybody was “deeply saddened” to hear of the passing of a dear friend and long-serving member who played an active role in the society down through the years.
“Aileen loved performing and was a lead performer in many previous shows. One of her favourites was Calamity Jane which she got to see and enjoy earlier this year,” the spokesperson added.
Aileen starred in many memorable performances on stage, including smash hits like Grease, Me & My Girl and Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Her late father, Eugene Ferris, was also very involved in the musical society for several years.
Originally from O’Kelly’s Villas, Killarney and later of King’s Park, Muckross Road, Aileen is survived by her husband, Mark and son Eugene, her mother Mary Ferris, brothers Eamonn and Richard, parents-in-law Don and Betty Rohan, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces and many other relatives and friends.
Her remains will repose in O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Killarney on Sunday from 4.00pm to 6.00pm with removal afterwards to St Mary’s Cathedral. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10.30am on Monday followed by private cremation in the Island Crematorium, Cork.
