
KILLARNEY Musical Society has earned an impressive eight nominations in this year’s Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) awards which are regarded as the Oscars of the musical sector.
The society’s production of rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar hugely impressed the adjudicators and it was chosen as one of the smash hit stage shows of the year.
Importantly, Killarney has been nominated in the best overall show category which is the most sought-after award up for grabs.
Oliver Hurley has been nominated in the best director category, Noel Lennon has been shortlisted for best musical director and Pam Brosnan has been nominated for the best stage management prize.
Killarney Musical Society has also been shortlisted for best chorus, best choreography and best technical show while society veteran Frank Ashe has been nominated for the Mary Kelly Unsung Hero award.
The nominations were revealed at a reception in New Ross, Co Wexford on Sunday.
Tralee Musical Society has also been nominated in the best show category for its production of Whistle Down The Wind. Tralee’s Alan Teahan has been shortlisted for the best singer gong, Janna Foley is nominated for the best actress prize and Tralee is also in the running for the best technical award and the best ensemble.
The awards will be presented at a gala black tie function in the INEC, Killarney on June 14.
