IF only every day in school was like this one – that was surely the thought that filled the minds of the pupils of Fossa National School and the nearby Two Mile Community School in Killarney when musicians came calling and it became a case of all around the classroom and mind the teacher.
The hugely popular schools’ outreach programme that is part of the annual Gathering Festival in the Gleneagle INEC Arena saw wandering musical minstrels bringing the Sliabh Luachra tradition of music and set dancing to the classroom.
Children were delighted to listen to real quality trad before they got a chance to show off their own prowess in song and in dance and it was a fabulous occasion that brought a smile to everybody’s face.
The Gathering Traditional Festival returned bigger and better than ever this week with concerts, céilís and live music around every corner.
The five-day festival attracted trad fans from the US, Britain, France, Germany and all over Ireland as well as many legends of the stage.
