Funding has been sought from Transport Infrastructure Ireland to upgrade the very poor road surface from Woodlawn Cross to the former Mineral Waters plant on Killarney’s Muckross Road.

Cllr Martin Grady said it is in a deplorable state and it needs to be urgently blacktopped.
“It is similar to the condition Park Road was in before it was addressed last year. It’s very dangerous and it is a very busy stretch of road,” he said.
Cllr Grady said, if possible, the work needs to be carried out before the next tourist season starts as there is a huge amount of traffic on the route.
The road, which is the main route from Killarney to Kenmare, also leads to busy tourist destinations including Muckross House and Gardens, Torc Waterfall, Moll’s Gap and the Ring of Kerry.
Cllr Grady also asked the council to liaise with Transport Infrastructure Ireland to consider the introduction of traffic calming measures at the N22/Ballycasheen Junction.
Council officials said the junction will be addressed as part of the proposed MD O’Shea Roundabout to Ballycasheen upgrade project which is due to be advanced to the Part 8 planning phase once technical approval has bee received.
