MUCKROSS Community Centre volunteers will conduct a street collection in Killarney on Saturday, November 1 to raise funds for a planned €145,000 extension to the facility.

The new development extension will double the size of the centre’s hall as well as providing essential storage space and disability toilets.

Muckross Community Centre committee chairman, Liam Kelly, said the new hall will have a folding partition so it can be divided into two separate areas as well as utilising the full space for larger community events.”

“This development would not have been possible without a 75 per cent grant from the South Kerry Development Partnership,” Mr Kelly said.

“We are extremely grateful to CEO Noel Spillane and his colleagues in the SKDP for their constant help and advice.”

The street collection will help to generate some of the €36,000 the Muckross Community Association has to raise to pay for the extension.

“We hugely appreciate the support of the people of Muckross and of all of Killarney,” Mr Kelly said.

“As always, the centre is available to all Muckross community groups and we hope the extension will facilitate many more activities.”

The visually attractive centre, which is located in the heart of the Muckross community, on the main Killarney-Kenmare road, is a bustling, vibrant facility that caters for many of the social and recreational needs of the parish and numerous events, including playschool activities, meetings and other community gatherings are held there every year.

The centre boasts a wonderful location as it is surrounded by the magnificent Killarney National Park which is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the country.
