
Ireland emerged as double European Champions at this year’s Australian Football League Euro Cup which took place in Germany and the success of both men’s and women’s teams were backboned by sterling performances from MTU current students, coaches and alumni.
The men’s team’s path to the final included wins over Wales, Switzerland, Scotland and Israel before a nail-biting victory over Northern Ireland in the grand final.
The women’s team overcame Germany, Sweden, Scotland and Croatia before emerging victorious over England in the final.
Both Irish teams were captained by MTU alumni – Annie Walsh and Paul Murphy. A total of 10 MTU members contributed to the success:
- Current students: Eoghan O’Connell (Electronic Engineering 3), Ailish Dunne (Nutrition & Health Science 4), Rebecca O’Sullivan (Quantity Surveying 3)
- Current MTU Coaches: Shannon Stevenson, Sorcha Herlihy and Eoin O’Sullivan
- Alumni: Annie Walsh, Paul Murphy, Sean O’Callaghan, Eoin O’Sullivan
