
OVER €800,000 has been allocated for the weatherproofing of Kerry’s regional and rural road network.
The funding is being made available to Kerry County Council under the Climate Adaptation Investment Programme which aims to address the impacts of climate change and severe weather events on road networks.
In total 21 projects across the county will benefit from the €806,675 funding with many schemes aimed at carrying out important upkeep and improvement works that will support regional and local roads.

Areas to benefit include:
- Aghadoe Drainage Works (provision of roadside drainage and pipes) – €60,000
- Area opposite Bowler’s Garage at Ballycasheen, Killarney (construction of retention wall adjacent to the River Flesk) – €80,000
- Coolick Embankment Repair (piping of open drain and embankment stability measures)– €15,000
- Flynn’s Forge Embankment Repair (slope stability protection measures for a cliff-face adjacent to a local secondary road) – €35,000
- Tomies Embankment Repair (rock armour to stabilise embankment to protest the road and repair slippage) – €30,000
- Ballyhar Embankment Repair (0epair slippage) – €30,000
- Ballybrack Embankment Repair (piping of open drain and embankment stability measures) – €30,000
- Coolroe West Drainage Works (provision of roadside drainage gully and pipes) – €20,000
Announcing details, Education Minister and Kerry TD, Norma Foley said the focus of the scheme is to support the continued maintenance and enhancement of the road network with particular regard to the impact of severe weather events.
“Overall this funding will help to ensure the roads across Kerry remain safe for all users,” she said.
