Monsignor Dan beamed into thousands of homes

A screen grab from RTÉ One showing Monsignor Dan O’Riordan officiating at the televised Mass

KILLARNEY viewers that switched on their television sets this Sunday morning saw a very familiar face being beamed into their sitting rooms.

Monsignor Dan O’Riordan, the former President of St Brendan’s College, was the celebrant on the RTÉ One Sunday Mass which was broadcast from the station’s studios in Donnybrook with an audience tuning in all over the country and overseas via RTÉ’s online service.

The service also featured the Castleisland Parish Choir and a number of local musicians, readers and altar servers, under the guidance of musical director Ailish Walsh, who has supervised rehearsals for several weeks.

It was a valuable promotional opportunity for Castleisland with some stunning photographs by local cameraman, John Reidy, featuring at the start of the Mass with pharmacist Jack Shanahan, who operated a chemist shop in Killarney for a number of years, delivering the introduction.

Monsignor O’Riordan was the career guidance teacher in St Brendan’s College for several years before taking over as President and, later, returning to parish life and becoming Vicar General of the diocese as well as PP in Castleisland.
