FORMER senator Marie Moloney is seeking to win back a seat on Kerry County Council.
She has been selected by the Labour Party to fly the flag in the Killarney Municipal District in next May’s local elections.
From Coolick in Kilcummin, she started out in public service as constituency secretary to former South Kerry Labour TD, Breeda Moynihan-Cronin, working from a base in the Conroy Hall in Killarney, from 1992 to 2007.
It afforded her a real grounding in community life and she quickly established a strong support base of her own which saw her become more involved in day-to-day political life.
Ms Moloney was elected to Kerry County Council in 2010 and she unsuccessfully contested the 2011 general election for Labour.

She was elected to Seanad Éireann, on the Labour Panel, in 2011 and she established a reputation as a hard-working, passionate and driven public representative with a particular interest in social and family protection, the health service and road safety.
More recently, she has been based in the Workers’ Rights Welcome Centre in Connolly Hall, Tralee.
Ms Moloney was selected at the party convention on Tuesday night which was chaired by Senator Ged Nash.
Earlier, former Killarney town council member, Seán Counihan, confirmed that he would not be seeking support from delegates at convention – despite being approached by a number of people asking that he allow his name to go forward.
“I have decided, at this juncture, to refrain from looking for a place on the Labour ticket,” he told KillarneyToday.com.
Meanwhile, Kerry Labour Chairman Luke Crowley-Holland has been selected to contest the local elections in the Kenmare with outgoing councillors, Terry O’Brien, Mayor of Tralee Graham Spring and former IT Tralee Students’ Union President Ben Slimm selected in Tralee.
