A KILLARNEY woman has today been ratified as the new chief executive of Kerry County Council.
Moira Murrell, who originally hails from Rock Road and now lives in Muckross, was formally proposed at a meeting of the local authority to succeed county manager Tom Curran who has retired.
A very highly regarded public official, Ms Murrell has previously worked with Killarney Town Council and Kerry County Council where she held a number of key senior positions in the finance department as well as the post of European Liaison Officer.
Up to her appointment to the top job in Kerry, she held a senior management role with Cork County Council.
Her appointment to the Kerry post was first revealed by KillarneyToday.com last May.
Ms Murrell, who is in her early 40s, is married to Brendan O’Neill from Caherciveen and they have three-year-old triplets, MaryAnn, Charles and Patrick.
She is the daughter of Mary and the late Charles Murrell and her mother still lives in Killarney.

A former pupil of St Brigid’s Presentation Secondary School and the University of Limerick, she has one brother, John, a school principal in Portlaoise, and two sisters, Breda and Margaret.
Proposing ratification of Ms Murrell’s appointment today, Cllr Norma Foley said she was highly qualified and she described the occasion as a tremendous day for Kerry.
She will commence her duties on August 5.
