Minister launches major action plan

MEASURES to safeguard the Irish language and to strengthen Gaeltacht areas came under the spotlight at Oireachtas na Samhna in the Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney this Thursday.

Delegates attended a seminar at which an action plan – Plean Gníomhaíochta 2018-2022 don Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge 2010-2030 – was launched by the Minister of State for Gaeilge, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Seán Kyne.

The detailed plan aims to build on the work being carried out on a cross-departmental basis for the benefit of the Irish language and the Gaeltacht and among the interested delegated in attendance was TV presenter and gaeilgeoir Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh.

Over 8,000 fans of music, song, poetry, dance and literature, decended on Killarney this week to celebrate the Irish language and to compete in various competitions for Oireachtas na Samhna.

The festival will be based in the Gleneagle Hotel and the INEC and with such an influx of free-spending visitors, it represents a huge economic boost to the area at this time of year.
