He might be little but Liam has a big heart

A CARING four-year-old boy from Killarney has really gone the extra mile – or kilometer – to help young people in a fundraising drive.

Liam Leahy, from Kilcummin, has already raised €125 for Team KDYS in this year’s Ring of Kerry charity cycle and he is not finished yet as he has set himself a target of €400.

With a little help from his dad Patrick, who is a well-known jarvey in Killarney, Liam signed up to support #teamKDYS but because of his age he was told he needs to wait a few more years until he can cycle the Ring.

That didn’t stop him, however, and he put his mind to fundraising ideas to help the cause.

KDYS chief executive, Tim O’Donoghue, remarked: “We were quite simply blown away when we heard about Liam’s efforts and we are so grateful to him and Patrick for their wonderful support”.

“To see a young person wanting to do something and anxious to help is really fantastic. We want to say a huge thank you to Liam and Patrick and to everyone who has contributed so far,” Tim said.

Liam’s dad, Patrick, said his son spotted the KDYS poster and asked what it was all about.

“I told him about the cycle and that KDYS help young people and he said ‘I’m a young person – I want to help too’. I contacted the KDYS for Liam and it went from there,” he said.

Anyone who wants to help can do so by donating to Liam Leahy’s #teamKDYS page on Everyday Hero by dropping into the KDYS in Fairhill in Killarney and adding to Liam’s sponsorship card there, or by contacting the KDYS on 064-6631748.
