Men questioned at Killarney Garda Station

Gardai monitoring all traffic going to and from Ballyspillane after the arson attack

TWO males have been arrested by Killarney Gardai following an arson attack on a house at Hazelwood Drive in Ballyspillane in the early hours of April 18 last, KillarneyToday.com can reveal.

The men were arrested at different times of the day on Saturday and they were interviewed at Killarney Garda Station before being released without charge.

A number of properties were also searched as part of the investigation.

A garda spokesperson said they are satisfied with the progress of the investigation and it is expected that a file on the matter will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions in time.

The incident at Hazelwood Drive – a small cluster of houses within the Ballyspillane estate – saw the front door of one property set alight in the early hours of the morning.

It forced the family living in the single-storey house, including four young children, to flee in terror through a back window shortly before 1.00am.

The family, who were asleep at the time, heard a loud bang and discovered the front door was ablaze. The distraught parents grabbed their children from their beds and scrambled to safety.
