MANAGEMENT and staff at Kerry Airport were flying high this Tuesday morning with confirmation that the Farranfore facility has been approved for funding of almost €1.2 million towards operating expenses.
It was announced by Kerry TD and Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin, with the total allocation amounting to €1,198,846.73.
The funding from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport will go towards the costs associated with providing essential services in the areas of safety and security and is in addition to a further over €1 million for capital works announced by Minister Griffin earlier this year.
The government also provides €7.252 million for operating the two PSO services between Dublin and Kerry and Dublin and Donegal.
Minister Griffin said Kerry Airport plays a vital role in the economic and social well-being of the people of the county.
“I am glad to see this substantial funding coming to Kerry, on top of the large capital grant for Kerry Airport and the continued Kerry Dublin flight subsidy. The government’s continued strong support for Kerry Airport represents major support for rural Ireland and is helping to sustain jobs and create new ones,” he said.
