Legion GAA Club has led the tributes to the late Mary Kelly, mother of former Kerry and current club goalkeeper Brian, whose death has been announced.

She passed away on Friday, suddenly but peacefully, at University Hospital Kerry.

In a statement, Legion GAA Club extended its sympathy to the Kelly family.

“Mary was one of our senior team’s top supporters. No matter the time, date, competition or venue, she was there with her trademark green and white scarf,” it read.

The club noted that Mary was extremely proud of the sporting achievements of her son Brian, the senior team’s goalkeeper, who was Kerry’s number one the last time the county won the All-Ireland in 2014.

Another son, Richard, has also been an integral part of the club’s senior team backroom crew since 2011 with his video and analysis work.

Originally Mary Breen from Keelties, Firies, she was married to well-known Killarney photographer Seán Kelly who has specialised in wedding and occasion photography for many years and their home is Tangerine House at Hilliard’s Lane off High Street.

They have one daughter, Mary, and five sons John (JP), Daniel (Bobby), Richard, William and Brian.

Mary is further survived by daughters-in-law Martha, Susan and Rosie, Richard’s partner Angela, Brian’s fiancée Rheanne, son-in-law Declan White and grandchildren Paula, Daniel, Rebecca, Sarah, Emma, Chloe, Lorcan and Ava.

Predeceased by her brother Denis and sisters Bridie, Eily Mai and Annie, Mary is also survived by her brothers Timmy and John Martin and sisters Sheila, Lizzy and Nora Mai, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and a wide circle of friends.

She will be reposing at O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Killarney on Monday evening, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, with removal to St Mary’s Cathedral afterwards.

Requiem Mass will be on Tuesday morning at 10.30am with burial afterwards in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery, Killarney. The Requiem Mass for Mary will be live streamed on https://www.churchservices.tv/killarneycathedral.
