The long-serving director of communications for the Diocese of Kerry has retired and the diocesan advisor in religious education at secondary school level has resigned to take up a similar position elsewhere.

Mary Fagan has left the communications role after 16 years during which time she managed internal and external communication as well as looking after technology and social media, the production of the Horizons radio shows and the Just a Thought slot for Radio Kerry.

Meanwhile, Tomás Kenny is leaving the position of secondary school religious education advisor role after a decade to work in the Archdiocese of Tuam which includes large areas of Mayo, Galway and Roscommon.

The Diocese of Kerry has appointed Tralee man David Sheehan to the role of communications and media officer.

He has experience in computing, sales and media editing a well as qualifications in marketing and business studies.

Mr Sheehan will produce and present Horizons with the help of a dedicated team including Gráinne Quirke and contributors from all throughout the diocese.

His brief is to communicate the Christian message in the context of contemporary Irish society and reach out to the growing number of people who have become distanced from their Church for whatever reason.
