Magnificent seven for magnificent Crokes

Colm Cooper: two-goal salvo

REIGNING Kerry and All-Ireland kingpins Dr Crokes were in devastating form at Lewis Road this evening when they absolutely crushed divisional side St Brendans by a whopping 22 points in the second round of the Kerry Senior Football Championship.

The final score of 7-17 to 0-16 tells its own story as Brendans, despite their tenacity, were not in the same league as Pat O’Shea’s finely tuned charges who are showing no ill effects of their long season which culminated with the Andy Merrigan Cup returning to Killarney.

Two goals each from Colm Cooper, Kieran O’Leary and Daithi Casey, one of the latter’s from a penalty, added to another strike from the impressive Gavin White, destroyed the visitors who simply had no way of coping with the slick and powerful Crokes attack.

To their credit, St Brendans never gave up the ghost and they did manage to clock up 16 points which might have been enough against any other side in the county – but certainly not Crokes.

In further good news for the All-Ireland champions Johnny Buckley returned to action in the second half and that augurs well as they continue the defence of their title.
