IT’S Christmas in Killarney… and doesn’t it look fantastic?
The most spectacular festive magic parade ever held in the town wound its way through the streets last night as a record crowd – some estimates say it topped 20,000 people – turned out to watch the exciting events unfold.
Incredibly colourful floats, giant illuminated mythical white horses, colourful Disney characters and excited schoolchildren all participated in gala opening parade with a smaller version planned for every Saturday night in December.
The parade started from New Street and passed through Beech Road, Mission Road, East Avenue Road, College Street, Plunkett Street and Main Street before culminating once again on New Street.
Children and the young at heart watched on in wide-eyed amazement and, not surprisingly, the biggest cheer of the night was reserved for Santa Claus who promised all the boys and girls that he would be back with their special gifts at Christmas.
It was a spectacular success for the dedicated Christmas in Killarney committee and the tremendously sparkly street lights are festive street decorations ensure a real festive season atmosphere prevails and it all goes to copperfasten Killarney’s already deserved reputation as the best town in the county at Christmas.
