Magic on the streets for Christmas in Killarney

Santa Claus wasn’t the only star attraction on the streets of Killarney during Saturday’s night’s spectacular Christmas Magic parade.

While the man in red and all the tinsel went down a treat, another bit of glittering silver caught the eye as the parade wound its way around the town.

The Sam Maguire cup made its debut at the Christmas in Killarney parade and it sparked just as much excitement as the chuckling guy with all the gifts on the back on his reindeer-led sleigh.

Through their exploits in Croke Park in July, the Kerry footballers ensured that there would be extra cause for celebrations this Christmas and green and gold jerseys will certainly top many wish-lists.

A sprinkling of delightful Disney dust fell on the streets as the first of the gala parades brought an explosion of colour, excitement and sheer joy to the town.

Santa and his helpers had been working so hard in recent weeks to ensure all the elements were in place to make it a Christmas to remember in Ireland’s most popular festive season town with thousands of people lining the streets to enjoy the festive carnival.

Spectacular Christmas floats, Disney characters, amazing snow horses, dancers, performers and famous US characters hit the town with a vengeance and, of course, Santa Claus himself, on his stunning reindeer sleigh was in typical jovial form.

The brilliant parade culminated with the official switching on of the truly magnificent street lights display and the stunning festive decorations.

There will be further parades – with the same starting time and the same route –  on Saturday, December 3, Saturday, December 10 and Saturday 17 so there will be plenty of opportunities for all the boys and girls – and the young at heart – to turn out to meet and greet Santa.
