Sinn Fein has appointed former TD Martin Ferris to spearhead the party’s local elections campaign in Kerry.
They will run a total of 13 candidates – including two in Killarney – and Mr Ferris said it demonstrates real ambition and a desire to bring about change.
“The political landscape is changing and Sinn Féin is leading that change. A strong Sinn Féin team on Kerry County Council will prioritise housing as the number one issue. We need much more ambitious targets for social and genuinely affordable homes,” he said.
Mr Ferris added that Kerry is heavily reliant on tourism but generations old family run businesses. are witnessing a real crisis where these businesses cannot control their costs and risk closing at any moment, while entrepreneurs are stifled in opening new businesses.
Sinn Fein’s local elections campaign will be officially launched at the Rose Hotel on Monday night.
The party currently holds four seats – two in Tralee and two in the Listowel – while Caroline Kennelly and Damien Switzer have been selected to contest the Killarney Municipal Disteict Council elections on June 7.
