Killarney town needs to be serviced by at least two ambulances on a permanent basis while all other towns should have a minimum of one ambulance and crew available, a meeting of Kerry County Council will be told.
Cllr Michael Cahill will ask senior council officials to request the National Ambulance Service to provide increased staff and vehicles to serve the county of Kerry which has a major increase in residents during the tourism season.
Emergency medical cover is also required for large sports and entertainment venues in the county and remote locations also require cover, he will tell a meeting of the council, by way of notice of motion, on Monday.
“Media reports of long waits for attendance of an ambulance in an emergency are too regular due to the numbers of call-outs versus available crews being a factor,” he said
“Ambulance crews may be on duty in other counties also, leaving Kerry short of cover,” added Cllr Cahill who said Killarney, as a busy tourist resort, needs to be properly covered by the ambulance service.
