The weather tried its best to play spoilsport but an informative and casual open evening hosted by the Killarney Lions Club on Thursday night was a big hit and it attracted a great turnout.
The event was held at the KDYS Youth Centre in Killarney and it featured different exhibitions highlighting the work and commitment of Killarney Lions Club volunteers and the various community-inspired initiatives with which they are involved.
Club members, for example, spearhead the all-important Christmas Food Appeal which plays such a vital part in the community in the lead up to the festive season every year and they are also the driving force behind the Kerry Clubs Fair.

The club works closely on a number of projects with transition year students from the three local secondary schools and, last night, bursaries were presented to Killarney Community College, St Brigid’s Presentation School and St Brendan’s College to help support students in need.
President of Killarney Lions Club, Denis Doolan, remarked: “It was great that people made the effort to come and find out more what Killarney Lions Club does, despite the weather on the night”.
He added: “We are a voluntary group so community support is vital for activities such as our Christmas Food Appeal which will commence very soon.”
The Killarney Lions Club, through its members, assists various groups and individuals in and around the community.
Lions do this through voluntary activities, fundraising and by holding various types of events in support of a great many local causes.
