Less than five new cases reported in Kerry

There were less than five new cases confirmed in Kerry today

NO further deaths related to Covid-19 were reported nationally today but 403 new cases of infection – including less than five in Kerry – have been confirmed.

The number of fatalities linked to the disease remains at 4,836 but the number of people known to have contracted the virus now stands at 243,911.

There were 183 patients in hospital being treated for coronavirus complications early this morning and 50 of those were in intensive care. The number of people admitted to hospital with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours is seven.

Of the cases notified today, 208 are male and 192 are female with 73 per cent under 45 years of age.

174 of the newly diagnosed cases are in Dublin, 34 in Meath, 20 in Kildare, 18 in Mayo and 16 in Cork with the remaining 141 cases spread across 20 other counties.

Kerry is the fifth best performing county in terms of keeping the spread of infection under control with a 14-day incidence rate of 39.9 cases per 00,000 population.

Faring even better are Kilkenny (21.2), Sligo (32.0), Clare (38.7) and Cork (38.9).

The worst hit counties are Donegal (204.2), Kildare 200.9), Offaly (192.4) Dublin (172.3) and Meath (160.0).
