AFTER following in the footsteps of Prince Charles and Camilla in Derrynane on Wednesday, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar retraced their journey to Killarney to enjoy some outdoor pursuits this Thursday.

But while the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall opted for the sedate surroundings of Muckross House and Killarney House, the Fine Gael leader was a little more adventurous and he took to the hills.
Mr Varadkar, a keen fitness enthusiast, enjoyed a wonderful day on the MacGiillycuddy’s Reeks and the Kerry sunshine obliged with a prolonged appearance as he scaled Carrauntoohil with Piaras Kelly of Kerryclimbing.ie and Cllr Michael Connor-Scarteen.
The cabinet meeting in Derrynane House – Daniel O’Connell’s ancestral home – the previous day was hailed a great success.
In addition to discussing the business of the day, including plans to recruit 1,000 extra inspectors and custom staff for ports and airports as a result of Brexit, the minister and officials got to savour the sights of South Kerry and Housing Minister, Eoghan Murphy, even brought his swimming togs to enjoy a dip in the sea.
