STEVEN Spielberg himself would have been proud to have penned the script.

On one of the big social and sporting days on the club’s calendar, All-Ireland champions Dr Crokes held a high-profile golf classic to raise funds to offset annual running costs.

And a team made up of fierce local rivals from Killarney Legion had the audacity to come along to steal the show.

It was all in the spirit of the occasion, however, and Crokes officials were not just happy to congratulate their long-time opponents but they were also delighted to accept the entry fee from the celebrating green and white representatives.

The event, sponsored by Colm Foley of Charlie Foley’s Bar and played on the Mahony’s Point course at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, was exceptionally well supported and the funds raised on the day will help to reduce the costs involved in the preparation of teams to compete at the highest level.

At the presentation of prizes were, front from left, Paul Downey, Denny Murphy, Colm Foley (sponsor), John Bowler, Seanie Culloty and Enda Murphy with, at back, Harry O’Neill, Liam Hartnett, John Keogh, Vinnie and Paudie Sheahan, Der Brosnan, John McEnery, Brian O’Callaghan, Mike O’Donoghue and Brendan Keogh.
