A KILLARNEY GAA club has just completed a 10-week schedule of fun tasks and challenges to promote positive mental health and well-being.
Killarney Legion got involved in the #OneGoodClub programme, in association with Jigsaw’s five-a-day campaign for mental health, which involved a series of activities targeted at promoting community wellbeing.
Events included a family fun quiz, a jersey day which saw club members from around the world connecting and a series of virtual interviews with club members facilitated by Mairead O’Donoghue.
Younger members created St Patrick’s Day cards which were sent to residents in local care homes and a virtual parade was also held.

A be active phase made everyone jump to their feet and get active with club stalwart John Doona supervising online fitness classes for all ages to ensure people clocked up their 10,000 steps on a daily basis.
Legion’s under 14 girls’ squad went the extra mile – quite literally – by running a collective 1,267km which was the equivalent of jogging from Killarney Legion grounds at Direen to Croke Park four times.
Other activities undertaken included nature photography, litter picking, herb planting, mindfulness and yoga. Baking tips, a talk on the importance of gum-shields and an informative workshop on the importance of maintaining positive mental health, focusing on the services available to young people aged between 12 and 25, were also organised.
The club also launched the Legion Boot Room where people can recycle their old boots by giving them to other.
The Legion club is also running an online fundraiser link for Jigsaw and to donate go to www.idonate.ie/KillarneyLegionJIGSAW
On May 27 at 8.00pm there will be a #OneGoodClub ceremony held on the LGFA Facebook page.
