Fossa and Kilcummin will battle it out in this year’s East Kerry Junior Championship (O’Sullivan Cup) final after the former overcame Killarney Legion on a 2-9 to 0-13 scoreline in the semi-final in Fossa.
It looked promising for the town side early on with Jamie O’Sullivan hitting four points, three from frees and one from play but Tadhg O’Shea got the opening score of the game for the hosts.
Trailing by 0-4 to 0-1 they then struck for a goal, Harry Kelly grabbing a rebound off the post to crash it home.
Finbarr Murphy and Emmet O’Shea replied swapped points before Jamie O’Sullivan, with a couple of frees, nudged Legion two clear again.
Tadhg O’Shea and Anthony Wharton clawed Fossa back level and Peter McCarthy and Danny Sheahan scored from play with Tadhg O’Shea rounding off the first half scoring with a point in it, 0-9 to 1-5.
Jamie O’Sullivan with two, from a free and play, and Emmet O’Shea with a similar return got a cagey second half underway. Stephen Flattery kicked an outstanding point to push Legion two clear again but Emmet O’Shea again put the sides level.
The seminal moment of the game was when a Paddy Sheehan shot looped into the top corner and Fossa found themselves with a three-point advantage but the drama didn’t stop there. Jamie O’Sullivan was heading for goal when he was brought down in the large parallelogram but Shane O Sullivan dived to his left to pull off a great save from Peter McCarthy’s penalty.
When referee Bryan Fleming blew the full time whistle it saw Fossa qualify for the final against Kilcummin on 2-9 to 0-13 scoreline.
