KERRY star James O’Donoghue could be the ace in the pack for Killarney Legion when they take on local rivals Rathmore in the first of the Kerry senior club football championship semi-finals in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney on Saturday evening (6.30pm).
With six wins from six outings, Legion are showing terrific form in the second flight of the county league and they will fancy their chances in this east Kerry derby, particularly with the opportunist O’Donoghue in their ranks.
The All-Star will get plenty of ball with the supply coming from the likes of Jonathan Lyne, Conor Keane, Podge O’Connor and Tom Moriarty but, that said, Rathmore are never easy to beat and they will certainly put it up to the Killarney town side.
Worryingly for Rathmore, their county league form has been less than consistent but they have reached the penultimate stages of this competition on merit and they are more than well capable of springing a surprise against their more polished opponents.
In the other semi-final, Dr Crokes will be hoping to make it an all east-Kerry decider when they take on impressive Dingle in Austin Stack Park, Tralee on Sunday (7.00pm).
The 2012 county final opponents resume combat and, on paper, it would appear that Crokes will have too much firepower courtesy of Kerry regulars Daithí Casey, Kieran O’Leary, Johnny Buckley and Fionn Fitzgerald.
Dingle are badly hit by injuries but they will have the bit between their teeth as they attempt to cause a major upset by out-smarting Martin Byrnes’ charges.
Verdict: Legion v Crokes final
