Lakers just pipped at the post

Having held sway for the majority of the game, Scott’s Lakers eventually succumbed to a late Tolka Rovers rally in a cracking game on Saturday evening.

Having led at the end of all three quarters, Brian Clarke’s side were eventually pipped at the post but will come away a bit rueful that they let that advantage slip.

It had looked very promising at the end of the first period with a nine-point lead that was whittled down to five at half-time. The third quarter saw Tolka roar into the game, even taking the lead at one stage, but the Lakers responded to hold a slender one-point lead heading into the final straight.

But the Jaja Davis and Dewan White combination eventually overpowered them to run out winners.

The loss is only the Lakers’ third of the season and, with six victories, they sit well poised towards the business end of the table. They have shown enough in the first half of the season to suggest that they can still have a big say in the destination of honours.

In Braden Bell and Terion Moss they have a duo as good as any in the league. Younger players like Eoin Carroll and Jack O’Sullivan are showing that they have the quality as will Mark Sheehan as he put his injury problems behind him.

Jamie O’Sullivan is now an experienced hand while Paul Clarke is flourishing in the captaincy, having his best season scoring wise.

It has become Oisin Spring’s break out season and the next few months will see the best of Mark O’Shea. Hopes are high too now that Ronan Collins is stepping up his rehab from injury so there is plenty to look forward to in the second half of the campaign.

They are back in the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre on Saturday, December 30 when the Drogheda Wolves make the journey south.
